Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah has revealed that he is “far away” from finalizing a new contract with the club. The 32-year-old’s current deal expires at the end of the season, allowing him to negotiate with non-English clubs starting January 1 for a potential free transfer.
Salah scored his 20th goal of the season in a dominant 5-0 win over West Ham. This victory extended Liverpool’s lead at the top of the Premier League table to eight points.
Following the match, Salah addressed his future, stating, “No, we are far away from that [contract] and I don’t want to put anything in the media. My focus is on helping Liverpool win the league.”
He emphasized the importance of remaining focused and humble as other teams close in on Liverpool’s position in the standings.
Salah is not alone in his contract uncertainty; club captain Virgil van Dijk and defender Trent Alexander-Arnold also face similar situations, with their contracts expiring at the season’s end.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot expressed confidence in his ability to manage the players. He stated, “I have control over what they do on the pitch. I’m pleased with what Virgil, Trent, and Mo bring to the team.”
Earlier this season, Salah voiced his disappointment over not receiving a new contract. Following a recent victory against Manchester City, he suggested he played as if it could be his last match against them.
Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy is optimistic about Salah’s future at Anfield. He believes the current situation may be part of the negotiation process.
“Every Liverpool supporter wants him to stay and I’ve got a really positive feeling that he’ll stay and they’ll get it done. They’re just taking their time – these things do when you’re talking about huge amounts of money. He’s the most important player Liverpool have at the moment. They’ve got to get it signed off,” Murphy noted.
Salah’s impressive performance this season includes 30 goal involvements in just 18 games, underscoring his value to the team.
