Rusape Crash Claims Two Lives – Alois Bunjira Escapes with Minor Injuries

RUSAPE – Two people were killed and four others injured in a road traffic accident that occurred Saturday afternoon along the Rusape–Nyanga Road.
The crash involved former Zimbabwe national footballer Alois Bunjira, whose presence at the scene initially drew public attention.
One victim died on impact, while another passed away shortly after being admitted to Rusape General Hospital.
The bodies have since been transferred to the hospital mortuary for post-mortem examinations.
The accident marks a tragic turn in a case that began as a routine traffic incident but has now escalated with confirmed fatalities.
Bunjira reportedly sustained minor bruises and declined hospital admission, choosing instead to accompany his injured relatives.
The other victims were transported by ambulance to Rusape General Hospital, where they are receiving medical care.
Dr Stewart Karembo, medical superintendent at Rusape General Hospital, confirmed the fatalities and provided an update on the condition of the injured.
“We dispatched ambulances to the scene after receiving the alert. Five victims were brought in, one of whom died after admission. We are currently treating two males and two females.
“One male patient suffered serious injuries, including head trauma and a fractured leg, and has been transferred to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital for further care.
“Alois Bunjira sustained soft tissue injuries but declined admission, opting to stay with his relatives,” said Dr Karembo.
According to ManicaPost, efforts to obtain comment from Acting Manicaland police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, were unsuccessful.
