Robbers Raid N. Richards & Mukuru in Chivi, Escape With Over US$31,000 – Four suspected armed robbers allegedly raided N. Richards Wholesalers at Chivi Growth Point in the early hours of Tuesday morning and escaped with large sums of cash after blowing open a safe belonging to Mukuru Financial Services.

According to sources, the robbery occurred at around 4am when the suspects stormed the premises and subdued a security guard before carrying out the attack.

The robbers reportedly tied up a Fawcett Security guard, identified as Taurai Chikuni, using ropes before using explosives to blast open the Mukuru Financial Services safe.

The suspects allegedly got away with US$31,000 and ZAR111,000 in cash.

Sources further revealed that the gang also attempted to break into a safe belonging to N. Richards Wholesalers but failed.

Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dewa said he was not yet aware of the incident at the time of going to print.

“No one was injured during the robbery,” said a source close to the investigations.

The case is currently being investigated by ZRP Chivi under RRB number 6739843.

The incident comes barely a week after another armed gang used a similar method to rob AFC Bank in Murambinda, where they reportedly drilled through a wall leading into the vault before stealing US$9,807 and ZiG152,190.
