Residents in Bulawayo’s CBD are outraged over the growing presence and unruly behavior of s€x workers, especially along Fort Street, Second Avenue, and Masotsha Ndlovu Avenue. Albert Nyoni, a resident, said, “We don’t feel safe.
S€x workers invade our properties, light fires, trample our gardens, and leave used condoms everywhere.” He added that children are now exposed to naked women roaming the streets.
Despite reporting to the police, Nyoni says the issue persists, and he now faces daily threats from the s€x workers. “They told me they’ll send thugs to deal with me,” he said.
Another resident complained about s€x workers hanging clothes on their property and harassing them. “This area has become a pr0stitution hotspot, even in broad daylight,” he said.
Ward 1 Councillor Josiah Mutangi confirmed the rise in pr0stitution, blaming poor street lighting. He is pushing for better lighting and working with police to address the issue.
Mutangi also highlighted that many s€x workers are struggling financially and said the council is helping them start alternative income projects.
