Putin to Join Xi at Tiananmen Parade During Rare China Visit

Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to visit China from August 31 to September 3 for high-level talks with President Xi Jinping, a regional security summit, and a military parade in Beijing.

The Kremlin says the four-day trip marks one of Putin’s longest diplomatic engagements in recent years.

The first two days of the visit will be devoted to the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, hosted in the city of Tianjin.

The summit brings together regional powers to discuss security, trade, and strategic cooperation.

Putin is expected to hold bilateral meetings with several heads of state during the event.

Following the summit, Putin will travel to Beijing for talks with Xi and to attend a military parade on September 3, commemorating the end of World War Two and Japan’s formal surrender.

Kremlin foreign policy aide Yuri Ushakov said Putin will be seated to Xi’s right as the “main guest,” while North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un is expected to sit on Xi’s left.

According to Reuters.com, Putin will also meet with other world leaders present in China, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, and Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan.

A meeting with Kim Jong-Un is under discussion but has not yet been confirmed, Ushakov added.

China remains Russia’s largest trading partner, and the visit underscores deepening ties between Moscow and Beijing amid shifting global alliances.

The parade and summit are expected to draw international attention, especially as tensions persist in Eastern Europe and the Asia-Pacific region.

Putin’s presence at the parade, flanked by Xi and potentially Kim, signals a show of unity among key non-Western powers.

Analysts say the visit could influence future diplomatic and economic alignments across Eurasia.
