President Mnangagwa to Sign E-Petition Against Sanctions
President Mnangagwa will today sign an electronic petition opposing illegal Western sanctions on Zimbabwe. This event, part of SADC Anti-Sanctions Day, aims to amplify calls from millions of Zimbabweans and the Southern African region.
The signing is taking place at the Large City Hall in Bulawayo, where the Politburo also endorsed the petition earlier this week. It will be presented to the U.S. Embassy in Harare.
As SADC chairperson, Mnangagwa is expected to deliver a keynote address on “Embracing Innovation towards Vision 2030: The Relentless Fight against Illegal Sanctions” before signing.
Despite enduring sanctions for 23 years, which have caused significant hardship, Deputy Minister Dr. Omphile Marupi stated that their impact extends beyond Zimbabwe to neighboring countries. Minister Judith Ncube highlighted that the sanctions have stunted Bulawayo’s industrial growth.
The Town Clerk announced that the Large City Hall will be closed to the public today, with restricted access to the City Hall Car Park. School buses will drop off students along 8th Avenue, and residents needing to conduct business should use the Fife Street entrance.
