Junior parliamentarians in the Midlands Province have received ICT gadgets from President Emmerson Mnangagwa, a move aimed at equipping young leaders with digital tools for effective governance and learning.

A total of 43 junior parliamentarians, including junior Chiefs and Senators, received tablets from the Ministry of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services.

This initiative is part of the Second Republic’s strategy to bridge the digital divide and ensure youth leaders are well-equipped for their legislative and educational responsibilities.

During the handover ceremony, junior legislators welcomed the initiative, recognizing its impact on their parliamentary duties and education.

“This is more than just a gadget—it’s a game-changer for youth leadership. said one junior parliamentarian.

“Now, I can document issues in my constituency with visual proof, engage stakeholders seamlessly, and ensure concerns raised by young people are addressed”, said one junior parliamentarian.

Another remarked, “Digital tools aren’t just useful—they are essential. This tablet will strengthen my role as a parliamentarian and serve as a key resource for my studies, and I plan to share it with classmates who need digital learning materials.”

As reported by The Herald, this initiative reflects Zimbabwe’s commitment to digital transformation, ensuring youth leaders are equipped for governance in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Midlands Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Owen Ncube, emphasized that digital literacy is essential for Zimbabwe’s Vision 2030 ambitions.

“We are building a foundation where digital innovation drives economic growth.

“ICT is the backbone of education, governance, and industry, and we are shaping a future where young leaders use technology to advance Zimbabwe’s modernization and global competitiveness,” he said.

This donation aligns with the Zimbabwe National ICT Policy, which seeks to establish a fully digitized economy by 2030.

By equipping youth legislators with modern digital tools, the government is investing in a tech-savvy generation poised to drive national development.
