The Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) board chairman, Advocate Tawanda Zvobgo, has died after reportedly suffering a cardiac arrest at his workplace.
Zvobgo is said to have collapsed while on duty and was rushed to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services Minister Tatenda Mavetera confirmed the development in a statement posted on her social media platforms, saying the ICT sector had lost a dedicated and visionary leader.
“It is with profound shock and deep sadness that I have learnt of the passing of Advocate Tawanda Zvobgo, Chairman of the POTRAZ Board.

“He was a dedicated leader, a brilliant legal mind and a steadfast champion for the advancement of Zimbabwe’s ICT sector,” said Mavetera.
She said Zvobgo played a critical role in driving Zimbabwe’s digital transformation agenda through sound regulatory oversight and strategic leadership.
“His wisdom and counsel were invaluable to our shared mission of digital transformation.
“My heartfelt condolences go out to his beloved family, friends, the entire POTRAZ board, management and staff during this difficult time.
“We have lost a pillar. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” she added.
Zvobgo, a seasoned legal practitioner, was at the helm of POTRAZ during a period of rapid technological change, overseeing regulation in the telecommunications, postal and courier services sectors.
His death has sent shockwaves across the ICT industry, legal fraternity and wider public service community, with many describing him as professional, principled and deeply committed to national development.
