Popular Catholic Priest Fr Oskar Wermter passes on

One of the most senior Roman Catholic priests in Zimbabwe, Fr Oskar Wermter has d!ed.

The Soccom Archdiocese of Harare announced in a Facebook post:

“It is sad to announce that Father Oskar Wermter was called home by the Lord early this morning at Richartz House. Just 9 days after the passing on of Fr. Brian Enright.

Fr Wermter was ordained a catholic priest in Berlin in 1972. Many people know him as a freelance writer, an activity he started around the year 1987. He was once the chairman of Shungu Dzevana Trust (Aids orphans).

Many Catholics remember him as the editor of Catholic Church from 2002 when he was social communications coordinator of the Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops Conference.

In 2003 he was the assistant priest in St Peter’s Mbare and the director of the Jesuit Communications. He also taught communications at Arrupe College, Jesuit University.

In 2008 he became the editor of Mukai/Vukani, a Jesuit publication.

May he rest in eternal peace”
