Police Officer Collapses, Dies After Watching Arsenal’s Victory Over Real Madrid

NIGERIA – A tragic incident unfolded in Calabar, Nigeria, when Police Inspector Stephen Enang collapsed and died moments after witnessing Arsenal’s dominant 3–0 victory over Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final.

The match, played on April 8, 2025, at Emirates Stadium in London, saw Arsenal outclass the Spanish giants.

Enang, who was attached to the Akim Police Division, had been watching the game at a local viewing center on Abang-Asang Street in Calabar Municipality—a popular gathering spot for passionate football fans.

According to Legit.ng, Enang was a regular visitor to the venue, often enjoying matches alongside friends.

A close friend described him as a soft-spoken and devoted Arsenal supporter with a deep love for football.

Witnesses say he was in high spirits, enthusiastically celebrating each goal. However, shortly after the final whistle, he suddenly slumped in his seat.

Friends rushed him to the hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

His unexpected passing has left colleagues and loved ones in shock. The heartbreaking event has also sparked discussions on the emotional and physical toll of intense sports fandom.

Similar incidents have occurred in the past highlighting the unpredictable nature of health emergencies in football.
