The Passenger Association of Zimbabwe (PAZ) has expressed its deep sadness over the tragic loss of three high school students who died in a kombi accident while on their way to collect their O-Level results.

In a statement, PAZ president Tafadzwa Goliati bemoaned the reckless driving skills of kombi drivers urging the authorities to strictly regulate public transport to ensure safety of commuters.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and the entire school community of St Mt Mary’s High School in Hwedza.

“This incident is a stark reminder of the need for improved road safety measures and stricter regulations on public transportation.

“PAZ urges the relevant authorities to take immediate action to address the root causes of this tragedy and ensure that such incidents are prevented in the future,” Goliati said.

This follows a tragic accident which claimed two leaners, Denzel and Wayne, lost their lives in a kombi accident on Wednesday afternoon whilst they were on their way to collect their O-Level results.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with many calling for greater vigilance on the roads—to ensure road safety measures are taken to reduce road deaths.

Denzel, who had achieved an impressive six As, three Bs, and a C, was described by his colleagues as a brilliant student and his funeral wake will be held in Mabvuku, with a burial set for Saturday in Zvimba.

“We are attending Denzel’s funeral in Mabvuku and his body is expected home before being taken to Zvimba for burial on Saturday. “It’s a sad moment to lose such a young man,” said a source.

Wayne’s funeral wake is being held in Southlea Park. A condolence message from his schoolmates read: “RIP to the greatest mafia in the world. Your heartfelt presence and all the memories made us who we are.”

The school’s development committee chairman, Mr. A Nyasha, expressed his condolences to the families and friends of the deceased students.

“Our thoughts are with the families, and friends of our boys who couldn’t make it. This is a very difficult time for everyone in our school community and us as parents,” he said.
