NIGERIA: Seven Arrested For Swapping Wives

NIGERIA: Seven Arrested For Swapping Wives – Authorities in Bauchi State, Nigeria, have arrested seven men over allegations of engaging in a wife-swapping arrangement within a religious group known as Wuddadu.

The arrests were carried out by the Hisbah Command in Katagum Zone following complaints from residents and members of the community.

According to Zonal Commander Malam Ridwan Muhammad Khairan, the suspects allegedly exchanged their wives among themselves for sexual and marital activities.

Khairan said the practice had no basis in Islamic teachings and warned that such conduct violated both religious and societal values.

“The suspects admitted to organising and engaging in the arrangement without any religious backing,” he said.

He added that the Hisbah enforcement unit launched investigations after receiving credible reports about the alleged activities.

Authorities said one of the suspects attempted to justify the practice by claiming he had dreams supporting it, although officials dismissed the explanation as baseless.

The leader of the Wuddadu group in Azare, Malam Sagir Bashir, said the organisation had spent more than a year trying to stop the behaviour through counselling and warnings before eventually reporting the matter to authorities.

The suspects reportedly expressed remorse, while investigations continue with possible legal action expected.
