New detective in town Tafadzwa Chidawa arrested, accused of car theft

Tafadzwa Chidawa, popularly known as Detective Kedha on social media, is facing theft charges in an unexpected turn of events.

Known for his viral videos in which he traps and capture thieves in Harare CBD, H-Metro reported that Detective Kedha made an appearance in court yesterday to face charges of stealing a South African car worth US$12,000 and smuggling it across the border into Zimbabwe.

Detective Kedha has been remanded in custody until his bail hearing on Friday, as he faces two other ongoing fraud cases.

Nature of case

The State alleges that Detective Kedha illegally brought a Toyota Hilux double cab worth US$12,000 into Zimbabwe from South Africa in December 2022. Additionally, he fraudulently registered the vehicle as Zimbabwean under the registration number AGE 6745 and sold it for US$12,000 to Melody Kufakwemba, according to the accusation.

On January 2 of last year, the vehicle was intercepted by detectives while being driven by Kufakwemba’s son-in-law, and its fake registration was uncovered during an inspection. The vehicle was confiscated and later verified with INTERPOL, where it was found to have been stolen from South Africa.

Additionally, the State also claimed that on July 4 last year, Chidawa received US$8,500 from Kufakwemba for the purchase of a Nissan Caravan, which he was supposed to import on her behalf but never delivered.

Subsequently, Kedha convinced Kufakwemba to provide him with more money, under the promise that he would deliver a Toyota Hilux to her. However, he failed to keep his promise and did not produce the vehicle.
