Mutare Man Jailed 15 Years for R@ping Mentally Challenged Teenager – A 54-year-old Mutare man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after being convicted of twice r@ping a 16-year-old girl living with a mental disability.
The man appeared before Mutare Magistrate Phathekile Msipa, while the State was represented by prosecutor Last Goredema.
The court heard that the first incident occurred in January this year when the teenager encountered the accused, who was her neighbour, while walking along a footpath.
“Mushure mekubata mwana uyu chibharo, musungwa akabva amupa paketi yemazepe (zapnax) senzira yekumutsindidza kuti asafumure nyaya iyi kune veruzhinji uye akamutyisidzira kuti kana akataurira vanhu aizomukuvadza,” Goredema told the court.
A second incident reportedly occurred later that same month while the victim was on her way to a field.

“Mwana uyu akanga ari munzira kuenda kumunda apo musungwa akamubata ruoko ndokumudhonzera mumunda umo akanomubata chibharo uye akadzokorora zvakare mashoko ekumutyisidzira ekuti aizomukuvadza zvikuru kana achinge afumura gure iri,” said Goredema.
The abuse came to light after the girl’s mother noticed changes in her daughter’s menstrual routine and questioned her, prompting the teenager to disclose the assaults.
The matter was subsequently reported to the police, leading to the accused’s arrest and prosecution.
