Murehwa Man Arrested After Mentally Challenged Neighbour Found Dead, Blood-Stained Knife Recovered

A man from Murehwa has been arrested in connection with the suspected murder of a mentally challenged neighbour, whose body was discovered with multiple deep wounds in a pool of blood.
The incident occurred on 12 August 2025, around 11 p.m., in Murehwa District under Chief Mangwende.
Police identified the suspect as Kudakwashe Dzimauta, who was reportedly walking home from Taloo Business Centre with the now-deceased Godfrey Baye and another villager, Innocent Pangura.
Pangura is said to have reached his home first, while Baye continued alone.
Later that night, Baye’s brother, Simbarashe Baye (33), discovered the body near their homestead.
A police report was filed at Musami Police Post the following morning, leading to Dzimauta’s arrest.
Officers allegedly recovered a knife and shoes with visible blood stains during the arrest.
According to The Herald, the body had a broken right arm, three deep cuts on the forehead, and a shirt tied around the neck, suggesting it had been dragged from the scene of the attack.
Mashonaland East Provincial Police Spokesperson, Inspector Simon Chazovachiyi, confirmed the incident and shared details from the investigation.
“ZRP Musami and Criminal Investigations Department officers from Murehwa attended the scene and they discovered that the body had a broken right arm and three deep cuts on the forehead.
“It was also discovered that the deceased’s neck was tied with a shirt, indicating that it was dragged from the place where he was allegedly murdered,” he said.
He added that the suspect was tracked and arrested through police investigations, and that the recovered items would assist in the case.
“Police officers, through investigations, managed to track the suspect and arrested him. They recovered some shoes with blood stains as well as a knife,” said Chazovachiyi.
The body was taken to Murehwa District Hospital mortuary for post-mortem.
Dzimauta is currently assisting police with investigations.
Inspector Chazovachiyi urged members of the public to respect the sanctity of life and exercise caution, especially during night-time.
“Life is precious and people should respect one another. We encourage everyone to respect the sanctity of life.
“We also appeal to the public to avoid walking alone during the night,” he said.
