Mtupa’s U.S. Prophecy Resurfaces in Wake of Swaggart’s Death

Prophet Rodrick Mtupa’s December 2024 prophecy about the death of a prominent American evangelist is receiving renewed attention following the passing of Jimmy Lee Swaggart on July 1, 2025.

During the crossover night service at Holy Palace Cathedral on December 31, 2024, Mtupa addressed his congregation with a series of prophetic revelations. One of them, he said, was a vision concerning the United States.

“The second prophecy concerns America — a powerful man of God. The Lord revealed to me that his time has come,” Mtupa declared during the service.

Swaggart, 90, died in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, weeks after being admitted to intensive care following a mid-June heart attack.

His death was confirmed by Jimmy Swaggart Ministries, which described him as a lifelong preacher, gospel musician, and influential broadcaster whose ministry reached millions worldwide.

According to Nyasa Times, Mtupa’s followers across Malawi and neighboring countries have praised the fulfillment of the prophecy as evidence of his divine calling.

Many are calling it a wake-up call for individuals and nations to return to God through prayer and repentance.

The prophecy has drawn a range of responses from the public. Some believe it proves that Prophet Mtupa truly hears from God and say it has strengthened their faith. Others are not so sure — they believe people should be careful when linking events to prophecies.

The story has started conversations in churches and online about whether this was truly a sign from God or just a coincidence.

Swaggart rose to global prominence in the 1980s through televised sermons, gospel albums, and bestselling Christian books.

Although he faced controversies in the early 1990s, he remained a central figure in evangelical media, continuing his ministry through the SonLife Broadcasting Network until his death.

“Prophecy is not meant to scare us; it is God’s way of preparing His people, guiding them, and giving them protection,” Mtupa has often stated.

As the prophecy continues to generate discussion, many churchgoers and faith leaders say it has sparked reflection on the power of prophecy and the spiritual state of modern believers.

Whether seen as a divine sign or a debated coincidence, the story remains a focal point in many religious circles.
