Winky D Fan Explains Ghetto Lingo In Song High Grades

Among his new songs from recently released album Eureka, dancehall stawart Winky D has featured school-going teenager Herman in hit song, High Grades.

The song has taken fans on a rollercoaster with one music fanatic sparing his energy to translate the ghetto lingo held in the lyrical content.

In his explanation, he is making it clear that the artist is advocating for youths to prioritize education and shy away from drug abuse.

Taking to Twitter, @redevigilance had this to say:

“Chimupfanha chema High Grades. Now, I hope you’re understanding what is happening in this song. Well, if you don’t let me explain.”

….”You have to understand ghetto lingo to get the message in this song. I will mention the terms as they are dropped in the sing.  Winky here used many terms used in the ghetto associated with mbanje but he is not promoting it but speaking to school children that they should instead score high grades in school.”

1.) “PachiGaffa ramba Mix, dzidziso nemusikanzwa nikisi” – Mix is a mixture of Mbanje and tobacco, growing up Madison cigarettes were used as a “mix”. So Winky is simply discouraging kids to mix education and  naughtiness.

2.) “Ziso ririRed kutsvuka” blood shot eyes are associated with smoking mbanje. Here Winky is saying your eyes better be red because of lack of sleep whilst studying.

3.) “One mhodzi yaka slektwa pane dzimwe” – one seed that was selected. For those who have never seen mbanje, it has seeds and before you roll it up you have to “select” the “mhodzi/seeds”  so that you are left with the real stuff without those small balls.

4.) “Manotes ndaizoita ekutsvinyira” – when you’re giving someone your stuff, you pick with your fingers as if you are pinching it. Kutsvinyira in other words kunyima.

5.) “Turnover a new leaf” –  the “leaf” here is what is called a Rizla, it is a French brand of rolling papers and other related paraphernalia in which tobacco, or marijuana, or a mixture, is rolled to make handmade joints and cigarettes.

6.) “MaHigh grades haukwanise kuno atenga mutonaz” – winky is simply saying you can not buy good grades the same way you can go and buy good grade chamba in town.

7.) “MaHigh grades ngaatenderere” – instead of good grade mbanje circulating, good school grade should instead be in circulation.  Positive messaging, I’m loving it!
