Mnangagwa Law School Opens, Ushering in New Era for Midlands

Kwekwe is set to make history this Thursday as the Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa Law School officially opens its doors in a landmark commissioning ceremony that will coincide with the Midlands State University (MSU) graduation.

The twin events, both scheduled to take place in the heart of the Midlands province, mark a transformative moment for Zimbabwe’s legal education and infrastructure development.

Named after President Emmerson Mnangagwa, a seasoned lawyer and statesman, the newly built law school is poised to become the largest in the country.

Final touches are underway, with construction teams working around the clock to complete the facility’s modern features—including a fully equipped moot court and an on-site hospital—designed to enhance both academic training and community service.

Excitement is rippling through the Kwekwe community, where residents view the development as a turning point for the city’s growth.

“It is a new dawn for us here in Kwekwe. I foresee a boom in the real estate industry. A lot of people will be seeking accommodation, and we will definitely benefit from all this,” said a local real estate agent.

Another resident echoed the optimism:

“Our city is on a massive growth trajectory. The project has put our city on the map. The future of Kwekwe and the Midlands province is indeed bright. We are in the right direction.”

Parents and stakeholders have also welcomed the decentralisation of law education, which previously centred around the University of Zimbabwe.

“Today we are happy and proud as a province, as our children and we can get the best in law right on our doorsteps,” said one parent, reflecting the pride felt across the Midlands.

According to ZBC, the commissioning aligns with the government’s National Development Strategy 1, which prioritises modernisation and industrialisation across key sectors.

Midlands Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Owen Ncube, commended the initiative:

“This state-of-the-art law school is part of the Second Republic’s broader effort towards improving education infrastructure in Zimbabwe, underpinned by the Modernisation and Industrialisation Agenda.

“I commend the sterling efforts of all MDAs and contractors who have managed to accomplish some milestones at this facility.”

With its strategic location and advanced facilities, the Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa Law School is expected to attract students, professionals, and investment—ushering in a new era of academic excellence and economic opportunity for Kwekwe and the Midlands province at large.
