Midnight Horror: Beitbridge Mogul Kills Wife, Turns Gun on Himself

A well-known Beitbridge businessman, Farai Longwe widely known as “Mr Grocery”, allegedly shot and killed his wife before turning the gun on himself in a locked bedroom at their Tshidixwa home late Wednesday night.
The incident, which occurred just before midnight, has left the community in shock and triggered a full-scale police investigation.
Longwe, who operated a chain of grocery shops across Beitbridge’s western suburbs, had reportedly locked himself in the bedroom with his wife moments before gunshots rang out.
According to sources close to the case, the landlord of the property alerted police after hearing the gunfire.
When officers arrived, they found both Longwe and his wife dead from gunshot wounds.
Beitbridge District Police Officer Commanding, Chief Superintendent Mesuli Ncube, confirmed the incident and said detectives have been dispatched to investigate.
“We have deployed a special team of detectives to the ground and I am yet to get full details. We will advise on further details at a later stage,” said Chief Supt Ncube.
The motive behind the murder-suicide remains unclear, and police say all possibilities are being considered.
According to The Chronicle, the couple had locked themselves in the bedroom shortly before the incident, prompting questions about what may have led to the fatal confrontation.
The tragedy has left the Beitbridge community reeling, with residents expressing disbelief over the sudden loss of a couple once regarded as stable and successful.
As investigations continue, authorities have urged the public to refrain from speculation and allow the facts to emerge through official channels.
