Medication Side Effects: Widow Says Drug Caused Husband’s Sudden S£x Addiction

A widow has revealed how medication prescribed for her husband’s Parkinson’s disease allegedly triggered drastic behavioural changes, turning him into what she described as a “sex addict overnight.”

Jane Ryde said her late husband began displaying compulsive sexual behaviour shortly after starting the treatment, including collecting pornography and demanding sex multiple times a day. She claims these side effects were not clearly highlighted in the drug’s information leaflet.

According to Ryde, the medication helped manage his Parkinson’s symptoms but severely altered his personality. She believes he would have been deeply distressed if he had understood the impact it was having on his behaviour.

“He changed overnight into someone I didn’t recognise,” she said. “He was a hard-working man, but suddenly he became consumed by compulsive behaviour, constantly collecting pornographic material.”
Ryde explained that her attempts to address the issue led to frequent arguments, as her husband did not recognise the problem. She eventually began documenting his behaviour in a diary to track the changes.

She also criticised the response from medical professionals, claiming the consultant dismissed the issue as unacceptable behaviour without investigating further.

The case highlights growing concerns around the side effects of certain Parkinson’s medications, particularly their link to impulse control disorders such as compulsive sexual behaviour, gambling, and addiction.
