Meat vs.Veg: Security Guard Gets 30 Years for Shooting Over Relish

GOKWE- A former security guard at Mambo Mines in Silobela, Avoid Siajena of Gweshe Village under Chief Nepiri, Kariba has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for shooting three colleagues in a deadly dispute over food.

High Court Judge Justice Garainesu Mawadze handed down the sentence after Siajena was convicted of murder and two counts of attempted murder.

The State represented by Sharon Fero heard that, the incident occurred when Lovemore Nyoni the now deceased who was cooking supper refused Siajena’s demand to prepare vegetables instead of meat as relish.

It is alleged that, the accused person threatened to “spoil everything” and opened fire, killing Nyoni and leaving Willard Chikofa blind and Shepherd Moyo sustained injuries.i

Siajena was convicted of murder and two counts of attempted murder. He received 20 years for murder, 10 years for attempting to murder Willard Chikofa and 8 years for attempting to murder Shepherd Moyo. The latter two sentences will run concurrently yielding a 30-year- effective jail term.
