A man from Mazowe, Chamunorwa Chikaramba (42), has died after allegedly consuming too much illicit beer, known locally as kambwa or musombodhiya, without eating.
Inspector Milton Mundembe, a spokesperson for Mashonaland Central police, confirmed the incident.
“I can confirm a sudden death by intoxication in Mazowe, where Chikaramba died after drinking kambwa without food,” Mundembe stated.
Chikaramba was reportedly found dead in a shed by a neighbour, who then notified the police.
Authorities have warned the public against drinking illicit beer and emphasized the importance of eating before consuming alcohol.
“We urge beer drinkers to stop consuming tumbwa and recommend that anyone drinking alcohol should eat first,” Mundembe added
