Mapressa Glam Show Brings Runway Revolution to Bulawayo

Bulawayo is gearing up to host the first-ever Mapressa Glam and Fashion Show on October 4—a bold new platform that’s rewriting the rules of fashion and pageantry in Zimbabwe.
Founded by South Africa-based socialite DJ Mapressa (Promise Sibanda), the event promises to spotlight confidence, culture, and creativity without barriers of age, size, or background.
Organisers say the summer showcase will feature models, designers, and performers from across the country, with preparations already in motion.
The show was first launched in South Africa in June 2022 with the goal of challenging conventional beauty standards and creating space for aspiring models who are often excluded from mainstream platforms.
The founder said the idea was rooted in cultural pride and inclusivity.
“When we started this movement in 2022, we wanted to create a cultural brand that celebrates Zimbabwean identity.
“Our early events were hosted in South Africa for Zimbabweans living in Mzansi, and the response was overwhelming.
“After seeing strong support from both the community and sponsors, we decided to bring the Mapressa Glam and Fashion Show home to Bulawayo for its first summer edition,” he explained.
Reflecting on the success of the Johannesburg edition earlier this year, where 15 Zimbabwean models participated, organisers felt the time was right to launch a local version.
Interest from rural communities has been strong, with 14 models from Tsholotsho and several others from Matabeleland already registered.
“We want to make sure that no one is left out, especially those who often face barriers in the industry. Winners will walk away with over R10 000 each, and more importantly, we’re creating a platform for people to step into the spotlight,” Mapressa emphasised.
As reported by YouthVillage.co.zw, the Bulawayo show will also serve as a creative launchpad for Zimbabwean talent, especially those from under-resourced areas.
Local designers, artists, and performers will be given the opportunity to showcase their work without the gatekeeping that often limits access.
The entertainment line-up includes Gog’ Bekezela, Andrea the Vocalist, Mzoe 7, Mr Ungayithi Vuu, MC Moe Shaba, and DT Bio Mudimba, known for his hit track “Kujata Jata.”
The entertainer stressed that the event is more than just a fashion show.
“This is not just a fashion showcase. It is also a networking opportunity. We want to empower local creatives and connect them with the business community that is backing this event,” he added.
Since its inception, the Mapressa Glam and Fashion Show has attracted attention from South Africa’s entertainment industry, with appearances by Uzalo actor Cebolenkosi Mthembu, Thandeka Dawn King, Maskandi musician Quality Biyela, and entrepreneur Brilliant Ncube.
The reigning Mr and Miss Mapressa Glam, Brian Sibanda and Nobuhle Ndlovu, are expected to attend the Bulawayo edition, reinforcing the brand’s growing influence across Southern Africa.
With its blend of cultural pride, creative empowerment, and star-studded appeal, the debut Mapressa Glam and Fashion Show in Bulawayo is shaping up to be a standout event on Zimbabwe’s 2025 entertainment calendar.
