Mapinga man stabbed co-worker over borrowed belt

CHINHOYI – A 38-year-old Mapinga man was remanded in custody for stabbing a co-worker in the stomach with a knife after a dispute over a belt erupted while they were washing chrome ore together.

Llyod Banda was hauled before the Chinhoyi Magistrate’s Court on attempted murder charges.

The State alleges that on October 24, 2024 at 0800 hours, the accused and the 24-year-old complainant were washing chrome ore at Tramore Farm. Suddenly, the accused demanded the complainant’s belt, ordering him to remove and hand it over so he could wear it.

The court heard that, the complainant refused to give the accused the belt, arguing it belonged to his brother.

This angered the accused, who picked up a knife from the ground and stabbed the complainant in the stomach.

The complainant suffered a deep cut on the right side of his stomach.

The accused was remanded in custody until November 1, 2024, pending a bail application.
