Manchester United Struggles: Record Losses and Low Points After Wolves Defeat

Manchester United is set to end this season with a record-low points total in the Premier League and the most defeats in the league’s history. This comes after their recent 1-0 loss to Wolves, which highlighted ongoing problems for manager Ruben Amorim.
The defeat at Old Trafford marked United’s 15th loss this season, breaking the previous record of 14 losses set last year under Erik ten Hag.
Currently, United has only 38 points with five games remaining, making it impossible to surpass the 58 points they achieved in the 2021/22 season.
This season, United has also suffered eight home defeats, the highest since 1962/63. After the match, Amorim stated, “If you don’t score goals, you don’t win games.”
Unfortunately, his team has failed to score in nine out of his 22 Premier League matches. Only relegated Leicester City has had more games without goals during this period.
Striker Rasmus Hojlund, who cost £64 million, has been under scrutiny after scoring just six goals this season, with only one in the current calendar year. Despite being the main striker, he has struggled due to poor service from teammates.
According to a report by SkyNews, under Amorim, United has become the weakest defensive team since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure, conceding over 1.5 goals per game. Their goal difference is among the worst in the league since he took over.
While Amorim has faced challenges, other teams like Wolves have improved significantly, earning 29 points since his first match, compared to United’s 16. Amorim’s record stands at 6 wins, 5 draws, and 11 losses in the Premier League.
Bruno Fernandes, the team captain, has faced criticism but showed his importance when he came off the bench against Wolves, providing more energy and creating chances. However, United has not won any of their last six league games without him in the starting lineup.
Amorim’s tenure has been marked by disappointment, and he will need to find solutions quickly as the season draws to a close.
