Man Sentenced to 17 Years for Stabbing Girlfriend
...After Finding her Naked in Another Man's Bed.
SOUTH AFRICA- A 43-year-old man has been sentenced to 17 years in prison for stabbing his girlfriend after finding her naked in another man’s bed. Lukhanyiso Educator Ndoya pleaded guilty in the Plettenberg Bay Regional Court.
In April 2023, Ndoya admitted to stabbing his partner, Lungiswa Dumiso, twice in the neck after discovering her at another man’s home in Bossiesgif. Eric Ntabazalila, a spokesperson for the Provincial National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), said Ndoya and Dumiso had been in a relationship for six years.
On the day of the incident, Ndoya went to Dumiso’s house but found she was not there. He then searched for her at another house where he had seen her before. When he entered, he found her getting out of bed. Ndoya confronted her and told her to get dressed.
Angry at what he found, Ndoya asked Dumiso to go for a walk with him. “He slapped and pulled her. She fell, and he again slapped and pulled her. She bit his finger, and he took out a knife and stabbed her twice in the neck,” Ntabazalila said.
Ndoya tried to escape, but a passerby heard Dumiso’s screams. Local residents quickly gathered, attacked Ndoya, and handed him over to the police. Dumiso was critically injured and had to be airlifted to the hospital.
Ntabazalila noted that Ndoya recognized he acted out of anger and should not have assaulted Dumiso. Prosecutor Johannes Marx urged the court to impose a strong sentence due to the high rates of gender-based violence.
Despite the violence, the couple has since reconciled, with Dumiso forgiving Ndoya. Ntabazalila emphasized that the sentencing highlights the ongoing fight against gender-based violence in the community.
