Zimbabwean Man Given US$1 Gupuro After Paying US$3,573 Roora as Wife’s Family Claims She Was Possessed by a Spirit– Businessman and mining advocate Blessing Togarepi is reportedly seeking a full refund of US$3,573 in lobola (roora) after his marriage allegedly collapsed before his wife moved into their matrimonial home.
According to reports, Togarepi paid US$3,573 in lobola for his wife, Aisha, during a traditional ceremony held on June 6, 2026.
However, the marriage allegedly failed to take off, with the bride reportedly never coming to live with her husband.
It is alleged that the bride’s family later claimed their daughter was possessed by a spirit that had claimed her as a wife, making it impossible for the marriage to continue.
The matter was reportedly taken before Chief Mutasa’s traditional court, where Togarepi demanded a refund of the money he had paid as lobola.
Reports say the family initially gave him US$1 as gupuro (a customary severance token) and informed him that he was no longer welcome.
Chief Mutasa is said to have ruled in Togarepi’s favour and ordered the family to refund the full US$3,573.

The case has sparked widespread debate on social media.
However, the claims have not yet been independently verified by this publication.
The reported dispute comes three years after Togarepi made headlines over the breakdown of his previous marriage.
In 2023, he told media: “I am happy that I managed to talk to my wife after a long struggle to communicate with her.”
He added: “I want to thank you because, after a long struggle trying to reach out to her, she came through. The story pushed her to communicate with me.”
Togarepi also said: “I will continue looking for her nenzira dzese dzandingagone nekuti tichiri nyama imwechete. Muchato uchiripo and I have to honour our vows.”
