Man City Thrashes Dortmund in Champions League: Foden Shines with Two Goals, Haaland Strikes Again!

Phil Foden scored two goals, and Erling Haaland netted against his former club as Manchester City defeated Borussia Dortmund, solidifying their position in the Champions League group stage.

Under Pep Guardiola, City remains unbeaten in their first four matches, climbing to fourth place in the table. The top eight teams will qualify automatically for the knockout round.

Dortmund started strong but quickly lost momentum as City scored twice in just seven minutes in the first half.

Foden impressed throughout the match, firing a powerful shot that tested Dortmund’s goalkeeper Gregor Kobel before hitting a curling free-kick straight to him.

Foden finally found the net in the 22nd minute, picking up the ball outside the box and placing a beautiful shot into the bottom corner. This marked his first Champions League goal in a year.

City continued to dominate, with Kobel making a good save from a close-range attempt by Nico O’Reilly before Haaland scored in the 29th minute, converting a cutback from Jeremy Doku.

Kobel was kept busy, fending off a powerful shot from Tijjani Reijnders. After halftime, Foden added his second goal in the 57th minute with another impressive strike.

Despite Dortmund’s late rally, which saw Waldemar Anton score a consolation goal from a Julian Ryerson cross, substitute Rayan Cherki closed out the match with a third goal for City in injury time after a great run.

After a slow start to the season, losing two of their first three games, City has since found their rhythm, now with just one defeat in their last 13 matches.

The match began with a light show at Etihad Stadium, and City’s performance shone just as brightly, bringing their points total to 10.

Although they exited early in last season’s playoffs, City boasts an impressive home record in the group stage, now unbeaten in 23 matches over the past seven years.

Foden’s goals marked his fourth of the season, while Haaland continued his remarkable form, scoring his 27th goal for club and country.

This goal also marked a record for Haaland, as he has now scored in five consecutive Champions League matches for three different clubs, including RB Salzburg and Dortmund.

Cherki’s late goal further showcased his talents, adding to his contributions with two assists for Haaland in the previous match against Bournemouth. – BBC
