Man Arrested for Rape of Elderly Woman
...After Falling Asleep at the Crime Scene in Gutu
A 20-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the rape of a 65-year-old woman at her home in the Chief Chitsa area.
The incident occurred on September 27, 2024, when Emanuel Mahachi allegedly broke a window to gain entry into the victim’s residence in Chief Chitsunge, Buhera.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Mahachi confronted the elderly woman upon entering her home. Despite her screams for help, no one responded. Reports indicate that he physically restrained her by grabbing her neck and commanded her to comply with his orders before assaulting her.
After the attack, Mahachi reportedly fell asleep at the crime scene, providing the victim with a crucial opportunity to seek assistance.
She successfully alerted her neighbors about the intruder and the heinous act he had committed, which ultimately led to his arrest.
After being charged, Mahachi appeared in the Rusape Magistrates’ Court, where he was sentenced to 18 years in prison for his crime.
