Man arrested after he attempted to sell a TV set to the person he stole it from

A KITWE thief’s memory has failed him leading to his arrest after he attempted to sell a Television (TV) set to the person he stole it from.

Sam Mwale was among four suspected criminals who stole a TV set from a Kitwe family.

However, in a surprise turn of events, Mwale unknowingly went to sell the TV to the person he stole it from.

According to Police, Mwale, 26 was nabbed and taken to police by Ngosa Chakalashi with the help of members of the public when he and his friends went to the victim’s shop in a bid to sell the TV.

Chakalashi however recognized his TV before wittingly tricking the thieves that he was interested in buying the set.

He confronted the suspects but four of them ran away. Mwale was the unlucky one as he was apprehended by Chakalashi.

Mwale however refused to go down without a fight, in trying to escape, he wounded the victim and has since been charged with unlawful wounding.

Copperbelt police commanding officer Peacewell Mweemba said the victim sustained a cut on his upper right eyelid and complained of a headache claiming a scissors was used to inflict the injuries.

“Brief facts of the matter are that some time back on date unknown ,but not long ago, the victim was attacked together with his family at home in Chamboli by five unknown criminals who later stole undisclosed amount of money and a Television set Hisence 55′ valued at K33,000.00 from his house.

“Few days ago when the complainant was busy at his shop located along Kingston road, town center, he came across three gentlemen selling a Television set and immediately he identified it to be his which was stolen from his house. Instead, he got it and told them to check for their money later,” he said.

Mr Mweemba said when the suspect came to collect the money yesterday, the victim confronted them asking them to state the source of the TV

“They ran away. In the process, the victim managed to get hold of one tightly despite being injured on his right eyelid with a small pair of scissors by the suspect. Still with help by the members of the public, the suspect was brought to the Police station,” he said.
