Malawians Rally Behind Bushiri in Bold Stand Against Repatriation

A wave of unwavering support has swept across Malawi as a group of concerned citizens embarks on an extraordinary 1,865-kilometer solidarity caravan to stand with Prophet Shepherd Bushiri and his wife, Mary.

The nationwide march, stretching from Nsanje to Chitipa and culminating in Lilongwe, aims to protest the couple’s potential repatriation to South Africa.

The movement gained momentum following a Malawi lower court’s recent ruling that the Bushiris be extradited to South Africa to face alleged charges.

Determined to challenge this decision, the organizers say their mission is clear—to show that Malawians stand by their own.

Speaking to Malawi24, one of the organizers, Mabvuto Mwakabana, emphasized that this caravan is a declaration of solidarity.

“We are a grouping of concerned Malawians who have mobilized ourselves to stand with Prophet Shepherd Bushiri and his wife Mary.

“This is more than just a protest—it’s a testament that we are our brother’s keepers,” he said.

Mwakabana highlighted that Prophet Bushiri sought refuge in Malawi after facing threats in South Africa.

He argued that forcing the couple back would endanger their lives, a risk Malawians are not willing to take lightly.

In addition to the march, supporters will sign petitions reinforcing their stance, which will be presented to key stakeholders.

As the caravan makes its way across the country, the message is loud and clear—Malawians refuse to turn their backs on the Bushiris.
