Makarawu Shines in Tokyo: Clocks 19.91s to Win 200m Heat at World Championships   – Zimbabwe’s sprint campaign at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo is off to a flying start, with both Tapiwanashe Makarawu and Makanakaishe Charamba advancing to the semi-finals of the men’s 200 metres.

Zimbabwe’s Tapiwanashe Makarawu has emphatically delivered on the global stage, winning Heat 2 of the men’s 200 metres in a blistering 19.91 seconds at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.

Facing stiff competition, Makarawu edged out the USA’s Courtney Lindsey (19.95s) and Jamaica’s Adrian Kerr (20.13s) in a tightly contested race, securing automatic qualification for Thursday’s semi-finals.

Makanakaishe Charamba,set the tone early, storming to victory adding to Zimbabwe’s celebrations.

He stormed to victory on Wednesday and finished second in his heat with a strong run and sailed through as the sixth-fastest qualifier overall.
