Major-General Tom Jefter Munongwa elevated to Brigadier-General

Commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, General Emmanuel Matatu, yesterday presided over the promotion of Major-General Tom Jefter Munongwa to the rank of Brigadier-General upon his retirement.

The event celebrated Munongwa’s extensive career in the Corps of Engineers, marking both a tribute to his service and a new chapter in his life.

General Matatu lauded Brigadier-General Munongwa’s significant contributions to the ZDF, noting his role in its development since its inception.

“Major-General Munongwa has served the Zimbabwe Defence Forces from its inception in the Corps of Engineers, witnessed its evolution, and contributed immensely to its development,” he stated.

He encouraged Munongwa to remain engaged with the military community post-retirement. “You have had a very illustrious career. You deserve the package, you deserve the promotion… This is your home,” he affirmed.

Expressing heartfelt congratulations, General Matatu emphasized the familial bonds formed through service.

“As you go into your retirement, please do not isolate yourself from the organisation,” he urged, highlighting Munongwa’s lifelong commitment to the nation.

In his response, Brigadier-General Munongwa conveyed his deep gratitude for the recognition, attributing his success to the mentorship and support received from his commanders and colleagues.

“It is basically through your support, guidance, mentorship, and belief in my abilities that culminated in today’s recognition,” he remarked, reflecting on the unique journey of his career marked by valuable lessons and challenges.

With humility, Munongwa acknowledged the divine guidance that fortified him along the way.

He expressed heartfelt appreciation to his family, especially his wife, for their unwavering support. “Your assistance, tolerance, and patience… have made this promotion possible,” he noted, underscoring the importance of collective effort in overcoming obstacles.

As the ceremony concluded, colleagues and dignitaries gathered to celebrate Munongwa’s illustrious service, eager to honor a leader who has left an indelible mark on the Zimbabwe Defence Forces and the nation as a whole.
