‘Leave Me Alone’ Tererai Mugwadi Hits Back at ‘Drug Addiction’ Claims

Urban Grooves star Tererai Mugwadi has come out guns blazing, dismissing swirling fears among fellow artistes and fans that she is drowning in substance abuse insisting she is “perfectly fine” and focused on rebuilding her life.

This comes as social media has been awash criticism, where many users accused her of drug abuse after a startling video of her recent performance at the Shoko Festival went viral.

The footage sparked renewed debate about her mental health, alleged drinking habits and calls for her to consider rehabilitation.

But Tererai says the noise is misplaced and insists that she is mentally grounded, emotionally stable, and working hard to become a better version of herself.

“Genuinely concerned people should call me or ask what is really going on with me, if there’s anything,” she said.

“Most of these comments are just for personal clout. I’m in the right space and trying my best to be a better person.”

She added that she spends most of her time at work in the CBD, far away from the chaos people imagine and wants the public to stop prying into her private life.

“I am currently at work, where I spend most of my time and I do not know where these suggestions are coming from.

“For now, they must leave me alone to handle my personal life.”

Despite being hammered by online ridicule, the artist says she is staying strong thanks to the community that still believes in her.

“There are people out there who genuinely need rehabilitation more than I do.

“I’m in the right space, and those shouting the loudest are not psychologists.

“Only a trained professional can determine whether someone has a problem.”

Regarding the Shoko Festival video that triggered the storm, Tererai says she is simply a soft target.

“In showbiz, there are good and bad days on stage. This trend of portraying me in a bad light isn’t new. These people have my contacts why can’t they ask for my side?”

Musically, she insists she hasn’t given up.

“I’m always making music. One of the recent singles was Muchibage with Maskiri. Music is my first love, but work is keeping me busy for now.”
