“l am proudly straight”, Desmond Elliot clears air on gay rumours

NIGERIA – Nollywood actor and Lagos lawmaker Desmond Elliot has denied allegations of being gay during a recent TV interview on TVC in Lagos, stating that the claims were “malicious gossip” with no basis in fact.

The allegations against Elliot surfaced after a blogger released a list of high-profile Nigerians rumoured to be involved in same-sex relationships.

During his TVC interview, Elliot shed light on his initial decision to ignore the allegations, explaining that they had no bearing on his personal life or his dedication to serving the public.

“For me, responding to such allegations is unnecessary as they neither add to nor subtract from my life’s purpose”.

“Personally, I do not feel obligated to validate or debunk every opinion about me. As long as I am making a positive impact, that is what truly matters.”

“Everyone has the right to self-identify, as long as they are operating within the bounds of the law. And for the record, I am unapologetically straight,” he emphasized.

He stressed that individuals should be free to make their own choices as long as they operate within the law and respect others.

“My stance is clear. Live your life as you see fit but always do so within the bounds of the law and with respect for those around you,” Elliot said.

The controversy over Elliot’s personal life has ignited a fierce online debate.
