Kombi Driver Charged with Multiple Homicide
...After Tragic Accident Claims Seven Lives in Kuwadzana
Felix Mhona, the Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development, expressed deep sorrow following a devastating road traffic accident that claimed the lives of seven individuals at the Kuwadzana 7 turn-off on Thursday morning.
The collision occurred when the driver of a commuter omnibus (kombi) failed to yield at a traffic light, striking a haulage truck and leaving four others injured.
In a statement, Mhona conveyed heartfelt condolences on behalf of the Ministry and himself to the grieving families.
“We mourn the demise of young men and women who perished in this crash. Our thoughts are with all the families affected, and we pray for the speedy recovery of those injured as they continue to receive treatment,” he said.
The Minister highlighted the urgent need for all transport operators, motorists, and the public to adhere to road safety regulations.
“This tragedy serves as another reminder of the critical importance of following traffic rules,” Mhona emphasized. He pointed out that while the traffic lights at the intersection were operational, the driver’s decision to proceed instead of stopping was reckless and a blatant violation of traffic laws.
As a result of the incident, the driver is now facing charges of culpable homicide, which involves the unlawful killing of another person due to negligence or recklessness, without the intent to kill.
Mhona warned that the Ministry would take strict measures to ensure the safety of the commuting public.
“This incident is a stark reminder that we must prioritize road safety to prevent further tragedies,” he added. The community mourns the loss of life while hoping for a swift recovery for those injured in this tragic event.
