Kenya’s Women Murderer Arrested
Suspected Serial Killer Confesses to Slaying 42 Women
Kenyan police arrested a suspected serial killer in Nairobi after discovering several bodies at a quarry. Collins Jumaisi, 33, confessed to murdering 42 women, including his wife, authorities announced on Monday.
Police apprehended Jumaisi early Monday morning in the Mukuru neighborhood. Acting police chief Douglas Kanja Kirocho reported that they had recovered nine bodies so far. Amin Mohamed, head of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, described Jumaisi as a “psychopathic serial killer who has no respect for human life.”
The murders began in 2022 with the killing of Jumaisi’s wife and continued up to July 11. Police discovered several mobile phones, identity cards, a machete used in the killings, industrial rubber gloves, rolls of sellotape, and a dozen nylon sacks similar to those found with the victims at Jumaisi’s home.
Over the weekend, huge crowds gathered as police retrieved dismembered remains from the quarry, leading to clashes with the police. Some local residents, angered by rumors, linked the bodies to alleged abductions of young protesters by security forces during recent demonstrations. However, police found no evidence connecting the remains to the protests.
A government spokesperson shared a police statement on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, stating that authorities were analyzing samples to identify the deceased and that investigations were ongoing. An activist from the Mukuru Community Justice Centre reported that most of the remains were decomposed, indicating they had been there for some time.
Earlier this month, President William Ruto condemned reports of abductions by state agents and promised accountability for any officers involved. Kenya’s police chief Japhet Koome resigned on Friday.
