Kenyan Man Accused of Killing Brother Faces Extradition After Dramatic Escape

A 28-year-old Kenyan man accused of fatally shooting his brother in South Africa has appeared in a Harare court following his arrest in Zimbabwe after allegedly fleeing the crime scene.

Fidow Mumin Kulmiye was arraigned last Friday, but proceedings were postponed to allow the court to secure a Swahili interpreter.

Kulmiye is facing murder charges linked to a fatal shooting incident reportedly captured on CCTV at a shop in South Africa.

The footage allegedly shows him shooting his brother from behind before striking him multiple times on the head with a firearm to ensure he was dead.

After the attack, Kulmiye allegedly fled South Africa, crossing illegally into Botswana before entering Zimbabwe, where he was arrested.

He is also accused of lacking valid immigration documents to remain in the country.

Prosecutor Mr Lawrence Gangarahwe told the court that the State intends to file an extradition request so that Kulmiye can be tried in South Africa, where the offence was committed.

“The State will soon file an extradition so that Kulmiye can be tried in South Africa,” he said.

According to The Herald, the matter was postponed and is expected to resume today.

Authorities are working to expedite the extradition process, citing the seriousness of the charges and the need for justice to be served in the jurisdiction where the crime occurred.
