Horror at Luphisi Cemetery: Missing Woman’s Body Found in Tampered Grave
The family of the late Gertrude Khoza is horrified by the recent discovery that her grave has been tampered with. This revelation came after the body of Bonisiwe Mabuza was found in Khoza’s grave.
Bonisiwe was reported missing on Tuesday, June 25. On Monday, July 1, police made a shocking discovery when suspects linked to her murder allegedly confessed to hiding her body in Gertrude Khoza’s grave, who had been buried in 2017. The 36-year-old Bonisiwe was exhumed at Luphisi Cemetery outside Pienaar in Mpumalanga.
Thembi Mathebula, 48, the daughter of the late Gertrude, expressed the family’s distress over the desecration of their mother’s grave. “We are heartbroken and considering further action.
The police removed another body and left our mother’s grave in disarray. We always maintain this grave, and it was not in this condition,” she said. Thembi added that the family is now unsure how to perform their cultural rituals at the grave due to the presence of another person‘s spirit.
“We don’t know how to perform our rituals now. We request that the family of the person found here come and perform their rituals, as we cannot proceed without them,” she stated.
Three people were arrested in connection with Bonisiwe’s murder. Marvelous Madonsela, 33, Mbuyiselo Sikithi, 34, and Pertunia Mhlanga, 28, appeared in the KaNyamazane Magistrates Court on Tuesday, July 2, and Wednesday, July 3, respectively.
Daily Sun spoke to sangoma Itumeleng Mofokeng, also known as NkunziEmhlophe, who advised the family to consult a traditional healer to determine if Gertrude’s spirit is still intact. “The family should consult to understand what to do next. Gogo’s spirit might be disturbed, but consulting will provide clarity and guidance,” he said.
