Home Affairs Revokes Documents of Miss Universe Nigeria
The Department of Home Affairs has announced the revocation of identity and travel documents for Chidimma Adetshina, Miss Universe Nigeria, and her Mozambican mother due to an ongoing investigation into fraudulent birth registration.
On Tuesday, October 29, the department updated Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on the investigation’s status, confirming that the completed case file has been handed over to the Hawks for further action.
Home Affairs Director-General Tommy Makhode informed the committee that the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) is now handling the case after the Counter Corruption and Security Services concluded their investigation.
Makhode stated, “We’ve done our part. The investigation is complete, and the file has been handed over.” The inquiry revealed that Adetshina and her mother failed to respond by the October 28 deadline to justify why they should retain their South African documents.
“We wrote to both Chidimma Adetshina and her mother, giving them until yesterday to provide reasons why their documents should not be revoked. We have not received any response, so we will proceed with the withdrawal of these documents,” he added.
Acting Deputy Director-General for Immigration, Albert Matsaung, reported that officials visited a property registered to Chidimma to locate her mother, who has not yet been arrested.
“When we checked the movement control register, it showed that her mother is still in the country, but she could not be found at the property,” Matsaung revealed.
The investigation follows revelations of a fraudulent birth registration linked to Chidimma’s mother dating back to 1995.
