Harare Man Spends Employer’s US$7,100 on Sports Betting – A 26-year-old Harare man, Kelvin Menyani, has appeared in court facing allegations of misappropriating funds entrusted to him by his employer.
According to court documents, Menyani was instructed by his employer, Efiat Kodoya, to collect US$7,100 from a trailer buyer while Kodoya was out of the country.
The accused was reportedly directed to hand over US$7,000 to Kodoya’s wife and retain US$100 as a token of appreciation for his assistance.

However, prosecutors allege that Menyani failed to deliver the money as instructed and instead spent a substantial portion of the funds at a sports betting outlet in Harare.
The court heard that after efforts to locate him, Kodoya and his relatives eventually found Menyani at MWOS in Mabvuku allegedly placing bets.
Police reportedly recovered only US$1,500 from the accused before placing him under arrest.
Menyani has since been charged with theft of trust property and appeared before a Harare magistrate. The matter is pending before the courts.
