It wasn’t until April 14 that the family received heartbreaking confirmation from the police that the body belonged to Trust. He was laid to rest two days later, on April 16.
According to reports, the fatal incident occurred when a commotion erupted in Crowborough. Trust had been walking with friends when people began shouting that a thief was nearby.
Panic spread, and some individuals assumed Trust was the suspect.
“There are two conflicting reports,” said Trust’s brother. “Police say he was k!lled around 3pm, but another source says it happened between 3am and 4am. A security guard in the area saw everything.”
The situation escalated when a vehicle pulled up and three men, armed with batons, jumped out. Without verifying anything, they chased after Trust and beat him mercilessly. The security guard reportedly witnessed the ass@ult but failed to intervene.
Trust was later taken to a clinic, but no one realized he was already d€ad. The guard then contacted his supervisor, who transported Trust to Parirenyatwa Hospital. There, doctors confirmed he had passed away. Police took his body to the mortuary.
His nephew, Ray Mutami, and a friend confirmed they only became aware of the tragedy after receiving a tip-off that a man matching Trust’s description had been found dead in Crowborough.
A missing person report had already been filed, and the family was eventually called in by Kuwadzana police to identify the body.
