A Harare traffic enforcement officer and her family woke up on Sunday morning in disbelief. They found an empty coffin with blood splattered inside, abandoned in their yard.
The unsettling incident occurred in the New Msasa suburb, where 42-year-old Eronia Payesa, a constable stationed at Harare’s CBD Traffic, resides with her family.
Police in Hatfield confirmed the eerie discovery in a memo directed to the Officer Commanding the Chitungwiza Police District.
Dumisani Mahahani, Payesa’s husband, reported the shocking sight to the police after the family awoke to the gruesome find.
According to authorities, the family went to bed on Saturday night. Their 10-year-old son, Tinashe, being the last to enter the yard around 6:30 PM after returning home from school. The gate had been left unlocked that night, raising questions about how the coffin ended up there.
Early Sunday morning, 34-year-old Lauren Simango discovered a coffin measuring 160 cm by 57 cm while cleaning the yard before the rest of the household woke up.
She found it positioned just inside the gate, and upon inspection, she noticed blood splatters inside.
Specialist detectives from the CID Forensic Unit quickly arrived at the scene to conduct a thorough investigation.
The mysterious circumstances surrounding the incident have left the family and the New Msasa community in shock, as police continue their inquiries into this strange occurrence.
