Haaland Double Fires City to Victory and Second Place in Premier League

Manchester City climbed to second place in the Premier League table with a commanding 3–1 win over Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Sunday, thanks to a first-half brace from Erling Haaland and a clinical finish from N. O’Reilly.
After a disappointing defeat in their previous away fixture, Pep Guardiola’s side responded emphatically.
Haaland opened the scoring in the 17th minute, pouncing on a defensive lapse to slot past Neto.
The Norwegian doubled City’s lead just after the half-hour mark, finishing off a sweeping move that showcased City’s trademark precision and pace.

Bournemouth refused to fold, pulling one back through N. O’Reilly on the hour mark after sustained pressure, but City managed the game well from there, controlling possession and limiting the hosts’ chances.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Haaland highlighted the importance of the win:
“It is good to bounce back after losing a bad away game. I tried to contribute for the team by doing my job.
“Now two more important games to come, so we keep focusing.”
Asked about being substituted while chasing a hat-trick, Haaland joked:
“There were probably a few fantasy managers who were not so happy!”
City manager Pep Guardiola praised both his team’s response and Bournemouth’s resilience:
“Bournemouth are one of the most demanding teams that we have faced.
“We found our rhythm and today we were better in many aspects.
“They played an outstanding game you have to match their duels, otherwise they punish you.”
Despite the loss, Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola was pleased with his side’s performance and commitment to their high-pressing style:
“It was not a bad performance by us. We started quite well.
“Even when they scored the first goal we were controlling a lot.
“You have to accept that the way we play carries risks.
“Haaland is amazing when you press high and leave space behind, he is super fast.”
The result pushes Manchester City up to second, keeping the pressure on league leaders Arsenal.
Bournemouth, meanwhile, will look to bounce back when they visit Aston Villa next weekend.
City now turn their attention to a crucial stretch of fixtures as they aim to reclaim the top spot in the title race and with Haaland back in scoring form, few would bet against them.
