Gwelutshena Man Sentenced to 20 Years for Fatal Axe Murder After Bar Dispute

HWANGE – In a shocking display of brutality, a 39-year-old man was killed in an axe attack at a sports bar in iNyathi.

Mtabisi Ndimande, the 23-year-old suspect, appeared before the High Court of Zimbabwe in Hwange, where he faced murder charges and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

According to State papers, the incident occurred on the night of August 5, 2024, at DZ Sports Bar, Turkmine Business Centre, iNyathi.

Meanwhile, the accused and the victim, both patrons at the bar, engaged in a heated argument over an undisclosed matter.

After the argument escalated, witnesses reported that a security guard intervened, prompting the victim to sit down while Ndimande remained standing.

In a shocking turn of events, Ndimande allegedly drew an axe from his waist and struck the victim on the head.

The blow caused the victim to collapse, with the axe embedded in his head.

Ndimande fled the scene immediately after the attack.

As a result of the severe injuries sustained during the attack, the victim, who was bleeding profusely, was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries the following day, August 6, 2024.

Finally, the axe was later recovered by police at the scene of the crime.
