Gunmen Abduct Over 50 Women and Children
More than 50 women and children were kidnapped by armed bandits during a raid on Kakin Dawa village in Zamfara state, northwest Nigeria, on Sunday. Local authorities and residents confirmed the attack, underscoring the escalating insecurity in the region.
The attackers, armed with assault rifles, stormed the village around midday, going house to house and abducting residents. “They took over 50 women, including married women and girls,” said Hassan Ya’u, a resident who narrowly escaped but lost his younger sister to the assailants.
Zamfara police have deployed additional security forces to the area, but locals are calling for stronger military intervention. “We urge the federal and state governments to act decisively against these bandits,” Ya’u pleaded.
Northwest Nigeria remains a hotspot for kidnappings fueled by poverty, unemployment, and the proliferation of illegal weapons, adding to the nation’s broader security crises.
