Guehi Rejects Palace Contract After £35m Liverpool Move Collapses

England international Marc Guehi is expected to leave Crystal Palace next summer after rejecting a new contract offer, following the collapse of his proposed thirty-five million pound move to Liverpool.
The twenty-five-year-old defender, who has entered the final year of his deal, is reportedly frustrated with the club’s decision to block the transfer and now plans to run down his contract.
According to Yahoo Sports and The Times, Marc Guehi had agreed personal terms with Liverpool and was awaiting final clearance when Crystal Palace abruptly pulled out of negotiations.
Manager Oliver Glasner, who threatened to resign if Marc Guehi was sold without a replacement, is said to have pressured the board to halt the deal despite chairman Steve Parish initially accepting the offer.
Crystal Palace’s failure to secure defensive reinforcements—reportedly missing out on targets such as Igor Julio, Ousmane Diomande, and Yann Bisseck has deepened internal tensions.
Oliver Glasner publicly defended the club’s stance, stating, “We have to keep him. It is not possible within one day to find the replacement who can play immediately in the Premier League.”
Marc Guehi, who captained Crystal Palace in their recent three–nil win over Aston Villa, told Sky Sports, “I am a south London boy… it is a pleasure to play for this club,” but stopped short of committing to his future.
Sources close to the player suggest he may step down from the captaincy as frustration grows behind the scenes.
With Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Juventus reportedly monitoring the situation, Marc Guehi will be eligible to sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs in January.
Liverpool are also expected to reignite their interest in the winter transfer window.
Crystal Palace return to action on September thirteenth against Sunderland, but the uncertainty surrounding Marc Guehi’s future casts a long shadow over Selhurst Park.
The club now faces the prospect of losing one of its most valuable assets for nothing.
