Government Completes Adjudication for Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Road, Bidders Set to Be Announced

The Government has completed the adjudication process for the rehabilitation of the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Road, a key route to Zimbabwe’s premier tourism destination and will soon announce the successful bidders.
This move is part of broader efforts to enhance transparency and accountability in infrastructure development.
To accelerate the project, seven additional contractors will join Bitumen World, which was initially awarded the contract for the 435km stretch.
Each contractor will be responsible for approximately 50km, with the rehabilitation expected to take between 10 to 13 months.
The tender was issued on April 17, 2025, and officially closed on April 29. Following the closure, an evaluation committee carefully reviewed the bids, and the results are now under assessment by the Special Procurement Oversight Committee before the final awards are announced.
Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to addressing road infrastructure challenges, stating that efforts were being made to ensure the rehabilitation programme proceeds efficiently.
“Pass on this message to the people of Zimbabwe: we are going to rehabilitate the Victoria Falls Road and my team is handling the adjudication process.
We will execute the rehabilitation programme with speed,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Mbudzi Interchange in Harare, soon to be renamed Trabablas Interchange, is nearing completion and will soon be commissioned by President Mnangagwa.
The $88 million project, situated at the intersection of Simon Mazorodze Road, Chitungwiza Road and High Glen Road, is expected to ease congestion in southern Harare.
All 15 bridges have been completed and the interchange will significantly improve traffic flow and road safety.
The Harare-Beitbridge Highway is also progressing well, with only 88km left to complete. Contractors are working to finalize this section, which includes 15 bridges and two mini-interchanges at Rothmans and ZBC.
Additionally, the Manyame River Bridge (Skyline) is set to open by the end of June 2025.
According to The Herald, various road rehabilitation projects are advancing nationwide.
These include improvements along Simon Mazorodze Road in Harare, surfacing work on Masvingo-Beitbridge stretches and ongoing construction in Mwenezi District.
Bush clearing for the Harare-Mazowe Road dualisation is underway, while surfacing continues on the Birchenough-Murambinda Road and Golden Valley-Sanyati Road.
Other key projects include the Musitwe/Melfort River Bridge construction on the Harare-Mutare Road, asphalt work on the Kadoma-Chakari Road, and re-gravelling efforts in Gokwe.
The Marondera-Hwedza road rehabilitation has resumed, alongside upgrades on major routes such as Bulawayo-Nkayi, Gokwe Centre-Nembudziya-Chodha and several others across the country.
