“Give Me A Resignation Date and I will Resign,” Ramaphosa

Cyril Ramaphosa, the President of the African National Congress (ANC), has boldly challenged his internal opponents to publicly state when they want him to resign.

He made this statement during a tense meeting with the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), where he confronted those seeking his removal.

Ramaphosa urged his critics to stop talking about his exit secretly and to present their demands openly. He made it clear that if the NEC formally requested his resignation, he would step down right away.

This confrontation comes amid growing rivalry within the ANC, with some members reportedly calling for leadership changes and suggesting a new national task team to replace the NEC.

Ramaphosa cautioned that the party cannot be run “mafia-style” and advocated for lifestyle audits of NEC members to ensure accountability.

His remarks surfaced amidst rumors that he might resign after the G20 summit this weekend. Despite the rising tensions, ANC spokespersons claim the party remains united and that Ramaphosa will complete his term until 2027.

His bold challenge, however, highlights the ongoing internal conflict and puts pressure on his opponents to either make their moves official or retreat from their clandestine efforts. -MDN
