Former ZBC DJ Simon Pashoma Ncube Receives Generous Assistance from Wicknell Chivayo After Heartfelt Plea for Help

Former ZBC radio DJ Simon Pashoma Ncube, once a household name in Zimbabwe, has received a significant gesture of support from businessman and philanthropist Wicknell Chivayo after a viral video showed him in a state of frailty and despair.

Ncube, who served Zimbabwe’s national broadcaster with dedication for many years, had pleaded for assistance, revealing that he was struggling with health issues and living in dire conditions in Chikomba West, Chivhu.

The video, which spread rapidly across social media platforms, depicted Ncube on crutches, visibly suffering, and unable to move freely. His heartfelt plea struck a chord with many, including Chivayo, who took to X (formerly Twitter) this afternoon to share his response to the video.

In his post, Chivayo expressed deep sympathy for Ncube’s plight, calling attention to the emotional impact of seeing the once-iconic DJ in such a vulnerable state. Chivayo, who himself hails from Chivhu, remarked, “To now see him living in despair, without the pension he rightfully earned, is both painful and deplorable.” He also recognized the long-standing legacy of Ncube’s work, particularly his time on Radio 2 (now Radio Zimbabwe), where he became a beloved figure among Zimbabweans.

What stood out to Chivayo was not just Ncube’s distress but also his acknowledgment of Zimbabwe’s leadership and the land reform program championed by President Emmerson Mnangagwa. Ncube’s recognition of the President’s transformative policies, Chivayo noted, deeply resonated with him and played a key role in his decision to step in and offer assistance.

Chivayo’s generosity is evident in his commitment to providing Ncube with immediate support to alleviate his struggles. In his X post, Chivayo outlined a comprehensive plan to assist Ncube, beginning with a USD 20,000 cash donation. He also arranged for Ncube to visit lawyer Sikhumbuzo Mpofu in Harare on Monday next week to receive the funds and further assistance.

Additionally, Chivayo pledged to help Ncube acquire a single-cab truck, valued at no more than USD 15,000, to support his farming activities and improve his mobility. “Please ensure whoever is going to be your driver has a valid license and can assist you in driving back to Chikomba safely,” Chivayo advised.

Chivayo, who is currently on a business trip in Paris, expressed regret over not being able to personally hand over the donation but stressed the importance of using the resources wisely to enhance Ncube’s livelihood. He recommended that Ncube invest in farm implements, fertilizer, and seeds, aiming to make productive use of the land allocated to him by the government.

Through his actions, Chivayo reiterated the importance of unity, productivity, and empowerment, values that align with the vision of President Mnangagwa. “May this gesture serve as a reminder of the importance of UNITY, PRODUCTIVITY, and EMPOWERMENT as we honor the vision of our BELOVED PRESIDENT and strive for a better Zimbabwe,” Chivayo concluded.
